Tanzania

On the east coast of the African continent lies Tanzania. Like its surrounding countries, Tanzania boasts incredible natural beauty. The Serengeti and Tarangire are must-see destinations, where elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and lions can be spotted for days on end.

In Tanzania, you'll find the highest mountain on the African continent: Mount Kilimanjaro. Next to Kilimanjaro is another volcanic peak, Mount Meru, which offers unparalleled views of the African landscape and Kilimanjaro itself during the climb

Mount Meru

Mount Meru is an active volcano in Tanzania, approximately 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru stands at 4,566 meters in height. Its last minor eruption occurred about 100 years ago, resulting in the formation of a new small volcano in the crater. To the north lies another peak known as 'Little Meru,' which stands at a height of 3,800 meters. You can also climb this during the ascent of Mount Meru. Do not underestimate the climb, especially the final day, as it poses a real challenge.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. Standing at 5,895 meters, it is often referred to as the "Roof of Africa." The mountain rises five kilometers above the surrounding African savannah plain. When you go on safari in Tanzania, you almost always see this towering mountain in the background. Climbing it is definitely worthwhile! Make sure to dress warmly on the last day, as the temperature at the summit can drop well below freezing!

Wildlife

The nature in Tanzania is overwhelming. In addition to the two mountains mentioned above, you can encounter numerous wild animals in Tanzania. The 'big five' of the animal kingdom are also present here. Bring your binoculars, as sometimes the animals can only be seen in the distance.

During safari excursions, you traverse the savannah of Tanzania. Animals you are highly likely to see include elephants, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, zebras, lions, hyenas, and various species of birds!
