Guatemala

Before I went to Guatemala, I had no expectations at all. I was passing through from Mexico to the south, and many told me that Guatemala shouldn't be missed. But I had no expectations.

After just one week, I was overwhelmed by everything Guatemala has to offer. The people are very friendly and helpful. The country features Mexican cuisine, which is certainly one of my favorites. The climate is great. The nature is unparalleled, with even an active volcano that you can see erupt up close! Along the coast, you can find the most beautiful surf spots. And there's an abundance of culture, with the temples of Tikal being my cultural highlight of Guatemala. This country truly has something for everyone!

Food

Because Guatemala is the neighboring country of Mexico, it has many Mexican influences in its cuisine. And Mexican cuisine is definitely one of my favorites! Guatemala has numerous markets, and the street food is delicious. Occasionally, you can also find some European cuisines: you can get pizzas here and there. Antigua, a large city in Guatemala, has many squares where you can enjoy local products in the evening.

The people

The residents of Guatemala, Guatemalans, are very friendly and helpful. Guatemala faces a lot of poverty, but despite this, the people are very approachable and respectful towards tourists. The inhabitants also dress very colorfully.

Its history

If you find Chichen Itza beautiful, then Tikal is truly extraordinary. Incredibly beautiful temples built by the Maya around 400 BC to 1000 AD. There are a lot of ruins, and the interesting part is that many haven't even been excavated by archaeologists yet!

Culture

The local population in Guatemala still wears vibrant traditional Maya clothing, maintaining age-old traditions. Centuries-old practices continue to be observed. The predominant faith among Guatemalans is Catholicism, evident in the numerous churches across the country. Incense is burned everywhere, and a strong sweet fragrance often wafts through the streets. So, immerse yourself in the ancient rituals, traditions, and customs of the local people!

Nature

A highlight of Guatemala is Semuc Champey & Lanquin. This is a natural area hidden amidst the mountains, right in the Guatemalan jungle. Cutting through the jungle is the Rio Chabon, a river with azure blue water. There are numerous waterfalls, limestone formations, and caves where you can embark on various adventures. Swinging above the river and allowing the current to carry you for a refreshing dip on warm days truly makes this place worthwhile.
