Panama

For me, Panama, like Guatemala, is a country where I had no expectations before the adventure. I knew it had a unique jungle inland, but beyond that, I had no ideas.

The capital, Panama City, is a dynamic and enjoyable city to explore for a few days. Also, hiking through incredibly beautiful jungles is a highlight. And what makes Panama an exceptional country is that you can have one of the best surf session you’ll ever experience, especially on the west coast! What amazed me the most about Panama are the islands. The San Blas Islands and Bocas del Toro on the east coast of Panama are a highlight during a trip to Panama.

Jungle

Panama boasts a diverse and varied nature. On the islands of Bocas del Toro, you can take beautiful hikes through the jungle. What I remember vividly is that, after two hours of hiking through the jungle, I emerged and found myself on a very large and deserted beach. The unexpected transition from jungle to beach was a fantastic experience.

San Blas islands

On the north coast of Panama lie the San Blas Islands. Boats from the mainland regularly travel to the islands daily. However, I recommend taking a boat for a few days to sail along the islands. Take your time for this. This way, you can fully appreciate the exotic beauty that San Blas has to offer. There are numerous islands, most of them uninhabited, with pristine white beaches and crystal-clear blue waters.

Beaches

Both the north and south coasts of Panama are blessed with numerous beaches. Palm trees are abundant everywhere. Many beaches provide excellent opportunities for surfing, while others are perfect for simply enjoying the tropical temperatures. If you have a knack for climbing trees, you can have a great time here, picking coconuts from the trees and savoring them at sunset!

Panama City

Of all the capitals in Central America, I find the capital of Panama to be the most enjoyable. It is, first and foremost, safe. Additionally, there is a beautiful promenade for walking. Casco Viejo, a colonial district in the city, is a great place to stroll around and explore coffee shops in search of the best coffee. Panama City also boasts an abundance of skyscrapers!
